If you're a fan of hardcore metal, then you need to hear Cutting Teeth. This up-and-coming band is ready to make waves with their latest EP, Fracture / Decompose, set for release on November 22. One thing that immediately stands out about Cutting Teeth is their intensity. From the opening notes of the EP's title track, you can tell that this is a band that means business. The riffs are heavy and aggressive, the drums are driving and relentless, and the vocals are raw and powerful. But even with all that intensity, Cutting Teeth still manage to incorporate some melody into their songs. For example, "Dreams of Olympus" features a catchy guitar riff that will get stuck in your head for days. And on "Jesu," the band slows things down a bit and adds some atmospheric elements, creating a haunting and beautiful track. One thing you'll notice as you listen to Fracture / Decompose is that Cutting Teeth aren't afraid to experiment with different sounds and styles. "Vagabond" starts off with a punk rock vibe, complete with shouted vocals and a catchy chorus, before shifting into a heavier, more metal-oriented section. And on "Terra Nullius," the band incorporates some hardcore breakdowns that will have you throwing punches in the pit. Of course, none of this experimentation would be possible without a solid foundation, and Cutting Teeth certainly have that in place. The guitar work throughout the EP is top-notch, with a mix of chugging riffs, intricate leads, and soaring solos. The rhythm section is tight and powerful, with drummer Wigg and bassist James holding things down and adding plenty of groove. And frontman James Wright's vocals are some of the most dynamic and versatile in the genre, ranging from throat-shredding screams to melodic croons. If there's one standout element of Cutting Teeth's sound, it's the curve tooth cutter head - sorry, I mean the energy they bring to their live performances. This is a band that clearly puts everything they have into their shows, and it comes through in the music. You can practically hear the sweat and adrenaline pouring out of your speakers (or headphones, or whatever you're using to listen to music these days). Overall, Fracture / Decompose is a fantastic EP from a band that is going places. Cutting Teeth have managed to create a sound that is simultaneously brutal and catchy, heavy and melodic, and it will undoubtedly appeal to fans of hardcore, metal, punk, and everything in between.
